This Week at WMES - November 8-12

This Week at WMES
November 8th – 12th

Dear Families:
Please use the Covid19 Daily check before sending your child to school each day.  Thank you for helping us all stay safe and healthy this year.

Some reminders for this week:

  • Remembrance Day is November 11th.  There is no school on November 11th.
Students will be participating in a virtual Remembrance Day assembly on the 10th.
We encourage everyone to wear red and black on November 10th if possible.   All students will be given a Poppy (pin or sticker) to wear for the assembly.  If you would like to make a donation to the local legion can send in a cash donation in an envelope or small plastic bag labelled poppy donation, or you can donate at https://www.legion.ca/
    Lest we forget.
One way we honor our Veteran’s at Waverley Memorial is by creating a “Wall of Honor” in our main foyer each November.  If you would like to send in a picture for our wall of Honour please send it in tomorrow – Tuesday, November 9th to be included.
Students are welcome to wear uniforms (Cadets, Guides, Scouts) on Wednesday if they would like to.
** Is your family planning on attending the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Waverley Legion on November 11th?  We are looking for a couple of WMES students to lay the school wreath at the ceremony on Thursday.  If your child is interested can you please send me a note to kwolfe@hrce.ca by Tuesday evening.  Thanks.

  • Term 1 ends on November 18th.    November 19th is an Assessment and Evaluation Day for teachers and there is no school for students on that day.

  • Report Cards will be coming home later this month.   It is important for all students to celebrate success, and every single student at WMES has had great success this term.
It is important to remember that success looks very different for EVERY student.
Before reports come home this term you will have an opportunity to meet virtually with your child’s teacher.  This meeting is an important part their growth story.  Please be sure to sign up for an interview when your child’s teacher reaches out.
When reports do come home, please try not to focus only on marks in the subject areas.  Report Cards are a quick snapshot of a student’s progress, but only a small piece of the story.
I encourage you to also spend some time focusing on the first page of the report card.  The Learner Profile is an important part of the story; it highlights the skills that all students need as they grow to become life-long learners and respectful, responsible citizens.   Celebrate this success as well (and ask about any concerns).

  • Student Progress interviews with classroom teachers will take place virtually for first term.  Classroom teachers will reach out to set up appointments in the next week or two.  The dates set aside for interviews are November 24th (evening) and November 25th (afternoon).  There is no school on November 25th.

Have a great week everyone.
Please reach out if you have any questions / concerns.
