Message for Families re. bussing

Family Message:

Dear Families,

Like many school districts across Canada, HRCE’s transportation providers have been facing ongoing challenges with driver shortages. While our providers indicate the large majority of their drivers are vaccinated, the introduction of Nova Scotia’s COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Protocol in High-Risk Settings will result in some additional delays and service disruptions.

Beginning on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, you may experience the following:

  • Some routes may see delays of up to 45 minutes.
  • A different driver and/or bus monitor may be assigned to your child’s bus.
  • Students from pre-primary to Grade 12 may experience service disruption at the beginning and end of the school day.
  • Inconsistencies in BusPlanner may occur.

If your child is impacted, you will receive a separate email or BusPlanner notification with their updated bus schedule. These changes will not be reflected in BusPlanner until Friday evening.

Our priority is to ensure that all students from pre-primary to Grade 12 have a bus to ride on, to and from school, each day. We will continue to communicate proactively with families to keep them informed and advise them of any changes to their bus schedules.

We recognize that this challenge will affect the daily routines of some families more than others. We continue to work diligently with our bus providers to find solutions as quickly as possible to help minimize the impact and maintain health and safety standards for our students.

Remember to monitor your child(ren) each day using the COVID-19 Daily Checklist. If they are unwell, please keep them home.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Student Transportation Team at 902-431-4723 or transportation@hrce.ca.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this challenge together.

Sincerely,
Mark Mendoza
HRCE Transportation Coordinator
