This Week at WMES
March 21 – 25th

Dear WMES Families:
On Thursday, March 10th you received an email from HRCE outlining the changes you can expect at school when you return after the March Break.
An update was also sent on March 19th to reflect updated measures regarding masking.

If you missed these emails, you can find the information posted on our webpage: https://wms.hrce.ca/ .

We understand that many families have concerns. We also understand that these concerns are very different for each of our families.
Our school team does not make the decisions regarding Public Health regulations for schools, but we are obligated to follow these regulations as it is our responsibility to keep our students and staff safe.  We ask that you practice patience and understanding when communicating with school staff.  Our number one priority is always our students.  We will continue to do everything we can to create a safe, happy, and inclusive learning environment each and every day.

Please continue to use the Covid19 Daily check before sending your child to school each day.  Thank you for helping us all stay safe and healthy this year.

A few things specific to our school to note:
• We will continue to have students come directly inside when they arrive in the mornings. This early entry has allowed for classes to get started right away after announcements and maximize learning time.

• Dismissal at the end of the day will remain the same.  Bus students will be dismissed first, and then walking students will be dismissed.  We continue to ask that you wait for the buses to leave before you gather on school grounds.  This helps us ensure that dismissal is safe and controlled.

• We will continue the practice of having students who are dismissed through the day to be picked up at the Kiss and Go loop (with a phone call to let you know you are there).

• If there are changes to your afterschool dismissal routine, PLEASE contact the office before 1pm.  We also ask that you refrain from coming into the office for unexpected pick-ups after 1:40pm unless it is unavoidable.  The end of the day dismissal time is complicated, and last minute, unexpected changes can delay everyone’s dismissal.

• As we get back to “normal” we would like to remind families that we discourage any kind of party invitation distribution at school.  This practice often leaves some students feeling excluded.  While we recognize that there is not expectation for all students to be included in activities that happen outside school parameters, we need families to understand that it is not our responsibility and should not be an expectation for us to distribute invitations at school. Thank you for understanding.

•  We will continue to use our great outside spaces as much as we can when we return after the break.  Please always make sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather.

• There is no school on Wednesday, March 23rd.  It is an Assessment Day for staff.  Teachers will be working on Term 2 report cards.

• Our cafeteria will be closed on Tuesday, March 22nd.  Please be sure to make alternate arrangements for lunch on that day.

We hope that you had a restful and happy March Break.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Mrs. Wolfe and Mrs. van der Weegen
