This Week at WMES

June 13 - June 17

Dear WMES Families:

A few updates this week:

Please continue to use the Covid19 Daily check everyday before sending your child to school. Students who are unwell should not be at school, even if they test negative for COVID. Thank you for helping us all stay safe and healthy this year.

A reminder that our June calendar is posted on our webpage.  Field Day is next Tuesday.

Please send a water bottle with your child each day.  As the weather gets warmer it is so important for the students to have lots of water each day to stay hydrated.

If you need Covid test kits please let us know and we’ll send some home with your child.

For the first time ever, Nova Scotia’s public schools will be celebrating Black Excellence Day on June 17, 2022.  Students and staff in Nova Scotia’s public schools as well as supporters are invited to wear black T-Shirts to celebrate and stand in unity in support of the success of Black students. Black Excellence Day celebrates Black Achievements, Black stories, Black Art, Black innovations, and Black people and their communities. This is also an opportunity to commemorate the ongoing struggle by Black Canadians for Civil and Human rights and to remember that small actions can make BIG differences.
Nova Scotia’s Inclusive Education Policy is a commitment to ensuring a high-quality, culturally and linguistically responsive and equitable education to support the well-being and achievement of every student. Black Excellence Day is an opportunity for students to see themselves represented, acknowledged, and celebrated and to grow understandings that create an inclusive education for all students.

For your information:  We have been hearing some students discuss a disturbing character they are watching on YouTube called “Huggy Wuggy”. This character is violent, and is not a friendly character as the name may suggest.  If you have heard your child talk about this character we strongly suggest you have a look for yourselves and have a follow-up conversation with your student.  Thanks.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Mrs. Wolfe and Mrs. van der Weegen
