This Week at WMES - September 28 & 29

This Week at WMES
Week of September 28th - 30th

Dear WMES families:
We hope that you all fared well in last weekend's storm. We are so happy to have everyone back today. We know that the storm added yet another obstacle for many families.  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need support.  We have a School's Plus team that we can reach out to to support families.  What is Schools Plus?  Please check out this attachment for more information on this program that helps families, schools and community partners collaborate to support our students.
A reminder that we also always have breakfast items and snacks available for students at the office.

Some important information this week:

  • Truth and Reconciliation Day is this Friday, September 30th.  There is no school on that day.  To honour our commitment to truth and reconciliation, we are asking all students and staff to wear orange on Thursday, September 29th. To learn more about Truth and Reconciliation day please see:
National Truth and Reconciliation Day - A time to reflect and remember

  • Cafeteria:  Please take a moment to check your Nutrislice profile to make sure that your child’s current class and grade are saved.  Detailed instructions can be found on our webpage.

Safety Updates:

  • We had our first Lockdown drill last week.  Our students did a great job taking it seriously and practicing staying safe within their classrooms. RCMP officer Hemeon joined us for the drill and gave us lots of tips for our next drill in the Spring.

  • Our first Hold and Secure Drill  will take place this week.  In a Hold and Secure, classroom doors are locked and hallway traffic is suspended, but learning continues within the  classroom until the drill has ended.

  • We will have 2 more fire drills this Fall, one in October and one in November.

Medications at school:

  • Non-prescription medications (tylenol, etc.) can not be administered at school by students or school staff.  If your child requires this type of medication while at school you will need to make arrangements to come deliver it to them.

  • Prescription medications can be administered in the office (but not in class).  If your child is going to require a prescription medication (including a puffer) while at school, you must complete the appropriate paperwork prior to them bringing it to school.  You can contact the main office for the forms, or drop by in the morning if it is needed immediately.  Prescription medications are ALWAYS stored at the office unless we have written agreements to indicate otherwise (ie. EPI pens).

Please return the updated registration forms and Acceptable Use forms that were sent home last week asap so that our contact records are accurate.

Interested in Volunteering?

  • We are thrilled to be able to invite volunteers back into our school this year. If you are interested you can contact the main office, or your child’s classroom teacher for more information.  Mrs. Dey - our librarian - is excited to welcome volunteers back to the library. Please go to the link below to find out more.
