Dear WMES families:

October is Mi’Kmaq History Month.  Last week we began important conversations as we discussed Truth and Reconciliation, and learned the history of “Orange Shirt Day”.  We will continue to learn about our country’s Indigenous People, and our own Mi’kmaq neighbors throughout the month of October, and all year.  With truth and understanding comes healing and growth. 

October 1st  was Treaty Day, a day to mark the beginning of Mi’kmaq History Month in NS.    We are all Treaty People!

This week:

  • Our annual Terry Fox Run will also take place on Thursday October 6th.  You can make an online donation at: https://terryfox.org/ways-to-give/ .
     
  • Updated Registration Information:  Please return the registration and Acceptable Use forms that were sent home last week asap so that our contact records are accurate.
     
  • Running Club/ Cross-Country -  Interested students in grades 3-5 will meet at recess on Tuesdays to practice for upcoming Cross-country meets.
    The first meet is taking place on Wednesday, October 5th, from 3:30- 5pm at Shubie Park.  Family members are responsible to transport students and to attend these extra-curricular events.
     

 

  • Our PTC is excited to be planning this year’s Halloween Howl.  This is a family event that will take place on October 27th from 6 - 7pm.  Students (and family members) can dress up and come join us for some dancing and fun in our school gym.   Students must come with a designated adult chaperone. 
    We hope you can join us.
     
  • Mark your calendars… We are planning an exciting Open House evening for Monday, December 12th.  This will be a night to ‘Celebrate the Arts’ and our student’s many talents.  Stay tuned for more information to come home soon.

October 26th - Family Flu Shot Clinic - from 2-6pm (If you are interested please be sure to bring your health card information with you).
