This Week at WMES - October 24-28

This Week at WMES
Week of October 24 - 28

Dear WMES families:
Our October Calendar can be found on our webpage.

Some info for you this week:

  • We are hosting a Family Flu Shot Clinic in our cafeteria on October 26th from 2 to 6pm.  For more information on how to reserve your shot, please see our webpage:  https://wms.hrce.ca/wms/news/2022/10/24/register-our-family-flu-shot-clinic-wednesday-october-26-2-6pm

  • Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)
Why can’t I mark my student Late (instead of absent) when I do attendance in the morning? Family members can only mark a student as  AWN (Absent with Notification) on the Attendance site, not L (late).  Once your child arrives at school we mark them as late in the office. This tells us that they are now present in the building. The option of L (Late) is not available from home because the student is not yet here.
For more information on the SafeArrival system please check out this link from our website.

  • School Photo Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, October 25th.  Photo retakes will take place on Nov. 10th.  Please try to avoid the color green when choosing outfits as the pictures are taken in front of a green screen.

  • The PTC is hosting a “Halloween Howl” this Thursday, October 27th from 6-7pm.   This is a Halloween themed dance for students and family members.  Everyone is welcome to come dressed up (we just ask that costumes are family friendly please).  All students must come accompanied by an adult.
We are not serving food at this event, so we encourage you to have supper before you come.

  • There is no school for students on Friday, October 28th.  It is provincial Conference Day across Nova Scotia.

Halloween is just a week away.  Students and staff are permitted to wear costumes on Halloween day (Monday, October 31st), but here are some important reminders:

  • Costumes must be school appropriate.  No masks or weapons please.
  • We recommend saving your more elaborate costumes for home so that they do not get damaged, soiled or parts lost at school.
  • Please check with the classroom teacher to see if they have any special requests about costumes in their classrooms. Each teacher may need to make individual decisions based on the specific needs of students in their room.
  • Please do not send in treats to share unless the classroom teacher has requested it.

  • WMES School Clothing is now available to order if you are interested.   The deadline to order is October 28th.   If you would like to purchase something but need some assistance - please contact us.  We can help!
Please go to SchoolCashOnline to order.  The options this year for all students are t-shirts (pink, navy or orange) and WMES toques (navy).

  • Grade 5 students also have the option of ordering a WMES “Grad” hoodie with the date and student signatures on the back.   This option is for Grade 5 students only.
  • All information to sign up for School Cash Online is also available on our website.   If you have any questions, or are not able to sign up online, please contact the school and we can send home a PDF of the order form.

  • Celebrating the Arts at WMES - Please be sure to add December 12th to your calendars to save the date for our first “Celebrate the Arts” night at WMES.
