Literacy Week Update

Dear Families:

We have been having such a great time celebrating Literacy this week!  Here are some highlights so far:

  • Flashlight reading in the gym has been so much fun!
  • We have a graffiti wall outside the Library where everyone is signing and writing about their favorite books.
  • "Poem in my Pocket" day yesterday was amazing.  We heard short poems and long poems, funny poems and serious poems, old poems and new poems.  We heard poems from famous authors, and poems from people right here in our own school.  What a great day!
  • "Read my shirt" day also gave us lots of positive, and sometimes silly , messages to read all day.
  • Today we heard about each other's favorite books, and got to read with "Buddies" from another class.
  • We wore red on Monday to kick off Lunar New Year celebrations, and many classes have been learning about Lunar New Year traditions and celebrations.
  • And every day this week we have had DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time and the whole school has spent 10 minutes reading at the same time.

Tomorrow is "Thankful Thursday".  All classes will be writing and sharing positive messages and thank you notes.

Friday is Family Literacy Day!  It's comfy/ cozy reading day so students can wear whatever they are most comfy in (PJ's / Sweats).

We encourage you to send back your Family Bingo Cards that went home earlier this week.  How many squares were you able to color in at home?

We are also hoping to have a book swap on Friday where students can trade books they are finished with at home for a "new to me" book to bring home.  If you have any books at home that you are finished with please feel free to send them in.

Thanks,

Mrs. Wolfe
