Home Alone Program for Grade 5 students

Hello Grade Five Families:

Beginning next week we will be offering the Home Alone Program for all of our Grade 5 students with the support of our Schools Plus Team.  There is no need to sign up for this course as it is being offered during school time and the school has already purchased the student books for the program.

The Canada Safety Council’s “Home Alone” program is designed to provide children 10 years of age and older with the necessary skills and knowledge to feel safe and be responsible when at home by themselves for short periods of time. The program aims to help children understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. Students will receive a booklet and certificate after completing the program.

Please note that the Home Alone program does not include comprehensive First Aid or CPR training for your child. While there are some basic skills and information shared as part of the Home Alone program, it is highly recommended that all children who are home without adult supervision seek out additional training in First Aid in the event of an emergency.

For help finding such training opportunities online or in your community, please contact the SchoolsPlus staff in your child's school (Isaac LeBlanc – Assistant Lead, and Rachel Murray – Community Outreach).

Schools Plus Contact Information can be found on the WMES Webpage / staff

The course will be offered on Wednesday afternoons in February beginning on the 8th.
A permission slip is required and will come home tomorrow.  Please return before next Wednesday.  We have also attached it digitally for your information.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks.
Mrs. Wolfe and  Mrs. van der Weegen
