This Week at WMES - October 28 - November 1st

This Week at WMES
Week of October 28th -November 1st

Dear WMES families:

Our October calendar can be found here:

https://wms.hrce.ca/sites/default/files/2024-10/October%202024_1.pdf

Our November Calendar will be available before the end of the week.

Demographic Update in PowerSchool:  The deadline to complete has passed and the form is closed.  If you did not complete the form you will need to contact the school if you have any important updates that we may not have currently (email addresses, emergency contacts, health information).  We will also not be able to include your child’s photo or work on any school publications (twitter, newsletters, etc) this year as we do not have consent for publication.

Cafeteria / Food availability Update:

The new School Lunch Program began for our school today, Monday, October 28th.  You can check out the Provincial website here and order on this platform.  You must order the week ahead on the new platformhttps://nslunch.ca/

If you miss a deadline please contact us.

Please let your kids know what to expect for their lunches and the importance of trying new things.  We are excited about the new healthy choices and are hoping that together we can promote positive conversations and excitement.

Some notes about today:  We did have a few hiccups today as it was the first day of the new program.  Lunches were delivered late - but all students who ordered did receive their lunch.  Student feedback was that the portions should be larger, but for the most part students enjoyed the meal.  We are working to make things smoother for tomorrow and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we navigate our new routines.

WMES School Clothing:

We are currently running a school clothing fundraiser until November 5th.  You can purchase WMES t-shirts, toques, or ball caps in SchoolCashOnline.  This is an optional fundraiser.  If you would like to purchase, but need some assistance (payment plan) please contact Mrs. Wolfe (kwolfe@hrce.ca) and we can help.

Halloween Reminders:

Halloween is quickly approaching.  Students and staff are permitted to wear costumes on Halloween day (Thursday, October 31st) if the classroom teacher has communicated that this is what the plan is for their classroom.
Here are some important reminders if your child is wearing a costume on Thursday:

  • Costumes must be school appropriate.
    No masks or weapons please.

  • We recommend saving your more elaborate costumes for home so that they do not get damaged, soiled or parts lost at school.

  • Please check with the classroom teacher to see if they have any special requests. Each teacher may need to make individual decisions based on the specific needs of students in their room.

  • Please do not send in treats to share unless the classroom teacher has requested it.

Flu Shot Clinic:

On November 6th we will be hosting a Family Flu Shot Clinic in our cafeteria from 2 to 6pm.   We will send more information soon on how to sign up.
