Message for Grade 5 families - GPV information

Dear Grade 5 Families,

February is early registration month and Georges P Vanier has started planning information sessions with our grade 5 students.  In February, families will be asked to complete a form indicating if their child is interested in joining the band program.  To help prepare for this, the band instructor, Ms. Meg Ferguson, visited yesterday to give a presentation to the students.

Here’s some key information from Ms. Ferguson to help you learn more:

  • Band Program Overview: Everything you need to know about joining our booming band program at Georges P. Vanier is available on this webpage: Georges P. Vanier Band Program. Feel free to explore the site to get a feel for the program.

  • Important Resources:

    • Please review letter that has been given to students:  "Information going home to grade 5 parents at our feeder schools"

    • Take a look at the Instrument Selection Slideshowso that you have the same information as your budding musician.

If you have any questions about the band program, don’t hesitate to reach out to Ms. Ferguson at FergusonM@hrce.ca.

Upcoming Events to Note:

  • Counsellor Presentation: Ms. Meaghan Douglas , one of GPV’s school counselors, will be presenting on Monday, January 13, at 10 am to provide information about the school and what to expect in grade 6.

  • Instrument Trial and Selection: Ms. Ferguson will return on Monday, January 20, at 8:00 a.m. for instrument trials and selection.

  • Parent Night: You are invited to visit GPV on Wednesday, February 12, from 6:00–7:00 p.m. in the gym for a parent information session about grade 6.

We understand that this is a big transition, and we’re here to support you and your child every step of the way. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
