This Week at WMES

his week at WMES

January 25, 2021

Dear WMES Families:

Family Literacy Day is Wednesday, January 27th.  We are putting together a video to celebrate our school community’s favorite books.  If you would like to send in a photo or short video clip of your family and your favorite book(s) we would love to include it.  Please send it to wmlcs@hrce.ca by January 28th.

Valentine’s day / Friendship Week.
Valentine’s Day is Sunday, February 14th.  The week leading up to Valentine’s day we will be celebrating friendship at WMES.  This year we are asking that families do not send in Valentine cards from home for students to distribute at school. Classes will find creative ways to have students share kindness with their peers all week leading up to the 14th.  Please save the Valentine cards for distribution at home on the weekend.

February is Registration Month
If you, or someone you know, has a child ready to start Pre-Primary or Primary at WMES in the Fall of 2021, please be sure to register this February.  This year we are asking families to fill in the registration form online (it will be posted on our website this week) and to submit the registration form and supporting documents (birth certificate and proof of address) electronically, if at all possible.
If this is not going to work for your family please contact the office to schedule an appointment time to pick up and then drop off the appropriate paperwork.
It is very important to register early as staffing for the upcoming school year is based on numbers of registered students early in the Spring.

Student Illness at school –
Thank you to everyone for doing the daily COVID-19 screening check before coming to school each day.  We appreciate your diligence in helping us keep our school community safe.  If students begin feeling ill once they have arrived at school, you will receive a phone call to come pick them up.   We understand that this can be a tricky situation for some work dynamics, so please have a back-up plan ready in case this happens.  Our shared health is our shared responsibility.

Important reminder about busses –
Students are only allowed to travel on the buses they are registered for. Bus drivers have student manifests with student information in case of emergencies. They are not permitted to take students who are not on their manifests. Please be sure to take this into account if planning for play dates after school.

Preparing for the Possibility of Online Learning:
Thank you to all who completed the survey last week.  As referenced in the Back to School Plan, schools are continuing to prepare for the possibility of online learning in the months ahead, even though we are hopeful that this scenario will not be necessary.  At WMES we are currently preparing potential class schedules for online learning and we would like your input.  Please take a minute to complete this survey to help us best meet your family’s needs in an online learning scenario.

Thanks for your continued support and cooperation.
