Message emailed to families on May 19th re. School Closures continuing.

May 19, 2021

Families:

This afternoon, Premier Rankin and Dr. Strang announced that at-home learning will continue for the remainder of the school year.
Click here to read the news release.

Classes for high school students will end on June 11, when students move into final assessments. Classes and assessments for other grades will continue as scheduled until the end of June. For more information on student assessment, click here. Any specialist support that your child may have been accessing over the past month will also continue virtually. This is not the news we that were hoping for, but it’s critical that we continue to follow Public Health advice to stop the spread of COVID-19.

More information will be shared in the coming weeks about graduation ceremonies.

These are challenging times. Please remember that you are not alone and that HRCE staff and our partners are ready to support you.

  • If you have questions about at-home learning or supports available to your child, reach out to your school principal.
  • If your child needs math support, the Homework Hub for Mathematics is now available to students in Grades 4 to 12. It can be accessed through GNSPES accounts or by calling 1-888-444-6607. It’s free.
  • If you’re looking for more information on math, literacy, physical education or mental health, click here.
  • If you are unable to access food support from a local food program, emergency food supports are available. Call 211 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. and speak to a navigator.
  • If you have questions about services and programs available to your family, our SchoolsPlus team is available to help. Click here for contact information by school.

Please continue to follow Public Health guidelines, get tested regularly and stay close to home.
I also strongly encourage you and your family to get vaccinated. By doing the hard work now, we will be facing a better summer.

Reminder: this Friday, May 21 is a professional development day for staff and Monday, May 24 is Victoria Day. There are no classes for students on Friday or Monday.

Have a safe and restful long weekend,

Elwin LeRoux
Regional Executive Director
