This Week at WMES - September 20 - 24th

This Week at WMES
September 20 – 21st

Dear Families:
Please use the Covid19 Daily check before sending your child to school each day.

Students who are unwell, even if they have received a negative Covid test, need to stay at home.  Our shared health is our shared responsibility.  Thank you.

Some reminders for this week:

  • This week we will have our first Lockdown drill.  Our staff have had many conversations with students about our Lockdown drill. Students are well-prepared.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to the classroom teachers or the office if you have any questions/ Concerns.

  • Picture Day last week was awesome!  The proofs will be here this week and we will let you know when they are coming home.  You will be able to order online or send the form back to the school.

  • Our first School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting is this Thursday, September 23rd.

  • A reminder that there is no school on September 24th.  This is a Professional Development day for staff.

  • On September 30, Nova Scotia will observe the first annual Truth and Reconciliation Day. The purpose of this day is to honour those who attended Residential Schools in Canada and to acknowledge the harm and intergenerational trauma experienced by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Survivors, their families and their communities.

  • All public schools will be closed on September 30. The HRCE calendar has been updated to observe this day of reflection.

  • Leading up to Truth and Reconciliation Day, schools will participate in various learning opportunities about Canada’s history of residential schools. September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day – a national movement to recognize the experiences of residential school survivors and to demonstrate a collective belief that every child matters. This day calls for all Canadians to wear orange in the spirit of healing and reconciliation. If you are unfamiliar with the story behind this movement, click here

  • This year, Orange Shirt Day will be honoured on September 29 in HRCE.

  • We will be having our Annual Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 23rd.  We encourage families to donate online to the Terry Fox Foundation if you are able to.

Terry Fox represented the best that Canadians have to offer. He was an example of courage, humility, determination, and perseverance. From a young age he exemplified these attributes that made him an inspiration for not only Canada, but the entire world.
Here is the link if you are able to donate: https://terryfox.org/terrys-story/

  • A reminder that due to COVID restrictions we do not have a Lost and Found area at school.  Items that are unclaimed from the office are donated.  Please label all of your child’s items.  Items with labels are returned to students.  Items without labels are donated.   Thanks.

Have a great week everyone.
Please reach out if you have any questions / concerns.
