This Week at WMES
Week of October 30 - November 3

Dear WMES families:

Our November calendar can be found here.

Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, November 1st.  We will also be taking class photos on this day.

Remembrance Day 2023 -

Remembrance Day Walk to Honour our Veterans: On November 10th we will be walking to the Waverley Legion (weather permitting) to lay wreaths / other signs of remembrance . Please be sure to fill in the permission form by November 6th.
If you are unable to fill the form in electronically please contact the office and we will send home a paper copy of the form. Please send these back by Wednesday, November 8th.
If you, or another family member would like to join us in uniform and walk with us please contact the office this week for details.

We are also creating a Wall of Honour in our main foyer.  If you have a family member who is serving, or has served our country, please feel free to send in their photo and we will include it on our Wall of Honour.   Digital photos are preferred, but we can scan your hard copy of photos if that is easier.   Please include the family member’s name, rank / position, and your child’s information with the photos/ emails.

Lest we Forget.

Please fill out this permission slip for your child to be permitted to walk with us to the Waverley Legion on November 10th.  Thanks.

Halloween is quickly approaching.  Students and staff are permitted to wear costumes on Halloween day (Tuesday, October 31st), but here are some important reminders:

- Costumes must be school appropriate.  No masks or weapons please.
- We recommend saving your more elaborate costumes for home so that they do not get damaged, soiled or parts lost at school.
- Please check with the classroom teacher to see if they have any special requests. Each teacher may need to make individual decisions based on the specific needs of students in their room.
- Please do not send in treats to share unless the classroom teacher has requested it.

Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)
Why can’t I mark my student Late (instead of absent) when I do attendance in the morning? Family members can only mark a student as  AWN (Absent with Notification) on the Attendance site, not L (late).  Once your child arrives at school we mark them as late in the office. This tells us that they are now present in the building. The option of L (Late) is not available from home because the student is not yet here.
For more information on the SafeArrival system please check out this link from our website.

Please feel free to reach out to us if you require Christmas support through local agencies. We can help you find the forms to apply for food/gift support, fill in the forms with you, and even pick up your Christmas hamper if needed.

NOTE: Registration for the main Christmas support programs is already open and there are deadlines so please reach out ASAP.
