This Week at WMES - September 28th

This week at WMES
September 28, 2020
Dear WMES Families:

• HRCE will be honouring Orange Shirt Day on September 30th. Since Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters Campaign began in 2013, many schools throughout the country have included this day in their September events lists, regarding it as an opportunity for students to participate in Reconciliation. Acknowledging this day increases awareness about the tens of thousands of Indigenous children throughout Canada who were removed from their homes and communities and sent to residential schools.  We encourage all of our WMES community to wear orange on Wednesday.  Thank you.  https://education.nctr.ca/

• Terry Fox Run 2020 –  We will not be having a school wide Terry Fox Run this year as it would be extremely difficult to maintain social distancing for an event like this. However, we recognize how important it is for our students to learn about Terry Fox and the impact he has had on our lives.  Classrooms will still take part in their own “Terry Fox” runs at some point over the next few weeks.  In the past we would have also encouraged students to bring a donation that we would then donate to the Terry Fox Foundation on behalf of the school. This year we ask that you go online and make your donation on our behalf.
Donations can be made at: https://terryfox.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/

• Emergency Planning:
We will have our first Hold & Secure Drill  of the year this week.  Classroom teachers will take the time to go over procedures with all classes before this takes place. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mrs. Wolfe.

• Our PTC (Parent Teacher Cooperative) is getting ready to schedule our first online meeting for this year.  We have many projects that they are hoping to help us fundraise for.  If you would like to be involved and would like an online invitation to join the meeting please let Mrs. Wolfe know and we will forward you the link.

• Picture Retake Day is October 9th.

Have a great week everyone.
Take care & stay safe
