This Week at WMES

Dear WMES families:

Some important info for you this week:

• Food Drive:  We are participating in Local Food drives to support our community this holiday season.  If you can help out please send in donations by  December 9th.  Thank you.

• There is no school this Thursday or Friday.  Thursday is a half day Professional Development session for staff in the morning and on Thursday afternoon we have Student Progress Interviews scheduled.   Friday is a full day professional development session for staff.

• Student Progress interviews are taking place this Wednesday evening, and Thursday afternoon.  You can sign up using this link:    https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/wmes   until Tuesday evening.  After that you would need to contact the teacher directly to set something up.

• Our Book Fair is open to families on the following dates:
      Wednesday, November 30 - 5-7:30pm
      Thursday, December 1 - 4pm
      Tuesday, December 4 - 8-10am
  
   
• Important Reminders about morning drop offs/and afternoon pick ups in the Main Bus Loop: 
  Our school buses always have priority in our main bus loop. 
  We are very fortunate here at WMES to have lots of options for morning drop offs and afternoon pick ups. 
  We have two parking lots (one off the main entrance, and one off School St.) as well as our "Kiss and Go" Lane. 
  We have been opening the bus lane to vehicles AFTER our buses complete their morning drop offs/ afternoon pick ups, but there will be days when our buses are running late (especially as winter weather approaches)  and we will have to defer traffic to the other drop off areas.
  We appreciate your patience and understanding in these situations, and ask that you are respectful with school staff. 
  
   
• Our “Celebrate the Arts” Open House will take place on December 12th between 5and 8pm.
  There will be student artwork throughout the school to see, and there will be  live performances taking place in the gym, the cafeteria, and the library.
  
  The tentative schedule is below.
  There will be updates as we get closer to the 12th, but this will give you a general idea of times for your planning purposes.  
  
  Please bring your child to the Music room 5 minutes before they are performing on the  main stage, and then proceed to the gymnasium to watch the performance.
  When each group is finished the students will proceed back to you and continue exploring the school art show with you. 
  Some groups will have a second performance scheduled in the cafeteria or Library.  If so - you will bring your child to the designated area and again collect them when the performance is finished.  
  
  We will ask all families to enter through the main doors and exit through the side door. 
  
  Our PTC  will have hot chocolate and a treat for everyone as you leave, and a very special visitor, Earl the Dinosaur,  will be outside for photo opportunities on your way out!
  
  We are very excited to share this special evening with everyone and we hope that it will be a great kick-off to your Holiday season.

If you are in need of COVID testing kits or masks please let us know.  We can send some home - or you can drop in to pick them up.

Upcoming Dates for your calendar:

November 29th - Report Cards will be emailed home.  (Please make sure we have an updated email if yours has changed).

November 30th - Evening Student Progress conferences

December 1st - No School - PD for staff in the am, Student progress conferences in the afternoon.

December 2nd - No School for students, PD day for staff.

November 30 - December 6  - Scholastic Book Fair

December 12th - “Celebrating the Arts” Night at WMES   5-8pm

December 20th - Last day of school for the Christmas Break
