This Week at WMES
June 26-30   Last Week of School for this school year!

Dear WMES families:

Wow, it’s hard to believe this is the last communication for this school year.  It certainly has flown by.  Thank you to all of our families for your support this year.

Some important notes for this week:

• The cafeteria is closed this week.  Please be sure to send a lunch and snacks each day.

• There is no school on Thursday, June 29th.  This is an assessment and evaluation day for staff. 

• Wednesday, June 28th, is the last full day of school.  Friday, June 30th, is the last day of school and dismissal will be at 10am.  Report cards will be emailed home on Friday.
   

• The first day of school for the 2023-24 school year is Thursday, September 7th.

• We will have our annual Curriculum Night Open house on Wednesday, September 6th.  Watch emails and our webpage in August for more information.
   
• Grade 5 Closing Celebration:
  We will be celebrating our Grade 5 students on June 28th at 1pm.
  Family members are welcome to join us.   We will have a short assembly and then cake and juice in the cafeteria.

• June always brings some staffing changes.  We have to say some good-byes to staff moving on to new positions / adventures next year.  At this time it is confirmed that Mr. Trenholm, Mrs. Campbell, Ms. Power, Ms. Stephanie, Ms. Denna, and Ms. Katie will be moving on to new schools in the Fall.  We want to wish them all the best in their new adventures.  We’ll miss you.

• We would also like to welcome some new faces to our WMES team.  Welcome to our new Core French teacher, Sarah Bayne, and to our new School Counselor, Melanie Stromberg!
  
   
• Student placements for September…. Please note, that classroom teachers will be reaching out to welcome their students to their classes AFTER September 1st.  Anything listed in PowerSchool before that time is subject to change, so we encourage you to hold off checking the Parent Portal until you hear from the teacher (by phone or email). Registrations occur all summer and there are typically fluctuations in teaching assignments and class placements the last week of August / first week of September.   Thanks for your understanding.
  
   
• We had our year end assembly last week and celebrated our volunteers and our student leaders.  We also celebrated some staff who received Milestone awards from HRCE.  You can check out the slideshow of highlights attached.
