This Week at WMES - October 10 - 13

This Week at WMES
Week of October 9-13

Dear WMES families:

  • It is very important that PowerSchool Data is updated each year.  You should have received an email a few weeks ago from HRCE with instructions on how to update information, and a reminder email last week from us.  The deadline to complete this task is October 20th.

This needs to be done even if your information hasn’t changed, so we really appreciate you taking a minute to do this.  If you have forgotten your password for the Parent Portal please follow the steps below to reset.  If you are unable to login because you have not done this before, please contact the school and we’ll make sure you have access.

To Reset your Parent Portal password:
On the sign in screen:  https://sishrsb.ednet.ns.ca/public/
    • Click on the Forgot Username or Password
    • Click the Parents tab
    • In the Forgot Password? Section enter your email address for Parent Username and parent email address.
    • Click Reset Password

Thanks!

Pizza Fundraiser
If you ordered pizza/ garlic finger kits last week they will be ready for pick up this Thursday.
If your child ordered one or two kits, they will be sent home with them on Thursday unless you let us know you would prefer to pick up.
If your child has more than two kits we will keep them at school for you to pick up between 2 and 6pm unless you let us know to send them home (in which case we recommend you send an extra bag).
We did order some extra pizza and garlic finger kits this year and they will be available on Thursday for $13.  These will be “first come first serve”.
Thanks for your support everyone!

October is International Walk to School Month (and Walk at School Month).  On October 18th (weather permitting) our classes will go outside together to walk for the environment, physical activity, safety and fun!

Our PTC and SAC groups are meeting this Thursday evening.  The PTC (Parent Teacher Cooperative) will meet at 6pm, and the SAC (School Advisory Council) will meet at 7pm.  Please feel free to join us.

We are hosting a Family Flu Shot Clinic in our cafeteria on October  24th from 2 to 6pm.   We will send more information soon on how to sign up.

School Bus Safety Week
Tomorrow, October 12th we will have our bus evacation drill.

October 16-23, 2023 is School Bus Safety Week in Nova Scotia!

Did you know that HRCE has more than 30,000 students who ride the school bus every day?

School Bus Safety Week is a great time to remind students, families and schools, of a few daily safety tips that everyone can follow to ensure all students get to school safely.

Bus Stop Safety

  • Be on time for the bus and please don’t run to/from the bus.
  • Stand back off the road and don't push or shove when waiting at a stop.
  • Always cross in front of the bus. Walk three metres (10 feet) in front of the bus to a point where you can see the driver and wait for the driver's signal to cross. Proceed to the centre of the road, STOP, LOOK & LISTEN and cross the road when it is safe.
  • Never crawl under a school bus or cross the road behind the bus.
  • Know the danger zones around the bus.

School Bus Safety

  • Please respect and listen to the driver and avoid distracting them.
  • Please keep noise levels to a minimum.
  • Do not stand or move seats while the bus is in motion.
  • Never put your hands, arms, feet or head out of the bus window.
  • Ask the driver for permission before you open the bus windows.
  • Do not throw anything inside the bus or out of the windows.
  • Keep the aisle clear at all times when the bus is in motion.

You can find out more information about School Bus Safety Week, including more safety tips, here.

Thanks everyone.  Have a great week.   A reminder that our October calendar can be found on our webpage.
